Environment / CSR
At Merkur Gardiner, we think sustainably. We want to contribute to a greener world, where nature’s resources are taken care of and our products are produced under decent working conditions. We believe that if we all do a little bit in the right direction, we do a lot for each other and the world. That is why we have some internal initiatives to contribute to the green transition, and we choose brands and collections that put sustainability and the environment at the center.

No thanks to child labor and chemicals
At Merkur Gardiner, we place high demands on our suppliers, and therefore we only work with those who comply with applicable European legal requirements. We therefore have an eye on EMAS, ISO 14001, the Nordic Ecolabel and Confidence in Textiles certificates in our collaboration. We also place high demands on our range, and therefore we only offer solutions that are free of harmful substances. In our view, it is important that a healthy working environment and production are compatible.

Our own green initiatives
We give back where possible. It may happen that we have excess textile after an order has been sewn or some of our range has been discontinued. We see no reason for the textile fabrics to be wasted, so therefore we hand over our textile leftovers or passed samples to primary and lower secondary schools and leisure schemes so that they can benefit from them for a lot of fun projects. Our remnants of iron and curtain rods are remelted at HJ Hansen A / S, and our cardboard and paper are recycled.

Cradle to cradle
We sell collections that deliberately have a production line according to cradle to cradle principles. JAB’s collection NatureProtect minimizes its CO2 emissions by growing, harvesting and finishing textiles all within a radius of 40 km, in southern Turkey. With emphasis on using short transport routes and renewable energy in production, the collection has been certified with the highest rank within the cradle-to-cradle principles, thus creating the least possible negative consequences for nature.

Plastic turns into polyester
Our brands Pagunette and Stila both offer collections that consist of plastic bottles that are recycled into polyester. For every time that six plastic bottles are collected in the sea or in nature, 1 m2 of fabric is extracted. Pagunette’s Recycled collection has textiles, and Stila offers vertical blinds and roller blinds of up to 100% recycled plastic. The recycled polyester is 66% less energy-intensive and uses 90% less water, compared to a completely new production. All textiles are OEKO-TEX certified, and therefore free of any harmful chemicals.

Textiles for the benefit of nature
Statistics show that textiles and clothing residues make up about 6-7% of small combustibles. As part of protecting nature and its resources in the best possible way, JAB has with their NatureProtect collection developed a textile that can 100% degrade itself. Once the textile has served its purpose at home in the living rooms, there is no reason to throw it in the ordinary rubbish bin. Let the textiles compost themselves in the compost pile, and let nature take its course. At Merkur Gardiner, we proudly present this collection that leaves a CO2-reduced imprint on nature.
